Despite Democratic resistance, the US Senate voted 51/47 to support Indian-origin Kash Patel’s appointment as FBI Director.

During hearings on Capitol Riots, Patel, a fervent Republican, reaffirmed his zero-tolerance policy against violence and stressed the need to look into and punish those who engage in it. According to CBS News, the Democrats opposed this, claiming that Kash Patel, a fervent Republican, may use the agency to target the president’s alleged political rivals.

The president has the authority to dismiss FBI directors appointed to 10-year terms. After President Donald Trump threatened to remove former US President Joe Biden, Chris Wray, appointed in 2017, resigned after Biden’s term.

According to The New York Post, Kash Patel had significant Republican support and passed a crucial procedural vote in the Senate on Tuesday.

According to sources cited by The New York Post, the Senate advanced the nominee 48-45 along party lines, setting up a 30-hour discussion before Patel would have been officially approved on Thursday.

About the Capitol Riots on January 6, he reaffirmed his strong opposition to violence during the Senate confirmation hearings on January 30, stressing that such acts must never be accepted.

Anyone who uses violence against police officers should be looked into, charged, and put in jail, he said.

“Since January 6, I have stated both publicly and privately that violence against law enforcement can never be tolerated,” Patel stated at the Senate confirmation hearings. Additionally, everyone who uses violence against police enforcement needs to be looked into, charged, and put in jail.
